How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal involves the use of a light beam targeting unwanted hair. The use of laser hair removal inhibits or delays the future growth of hair. Light energy emitted from the laser converts into heat, damaging the hair follicles that produce the hair.
How long does it last?
Most clients will be required to have on average 6 treatments, those with hormonal hair problems may infact need more sessions and then there is a possibility of maintenance sessions there after, however this isn’t the case for everyone.
Where can I have laser hair removal?
Any part of the body where hair grows and is unwanted. Laser hair removal works best in 4 specific areas - bikini line, underarms, lower legs and coarse facial hair.
Does it hurt?
Laser hair removal is NOT as painful as waxing and is a lot quicker! Most of our clients say that it didn’t hurt but felt a bit like a little pinprick every now and then. Go for it! It will be worth it.
I have PCOS, will I be able to have laser hair removal?
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common health problem which can lead to the excessive growth of unwanted hair than those without PCOS. This is something we can help you maintain with our laser hair removal treatments on a regular basis.
Can you treat any skin type?
Yes at Beauty by Laser our system which is the Candela Gentlemax Pro has two laser’s. The 755nm Alexandrite Laser is for a white cucasion skin type’s and the 1064nm Nd:YAG Laser is for darker skins.
What do I need to do in preparation?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and for large treatment area’s shaving the day before is advised, but if you can leave a hand size patch of hair for the practitioner to assess and determine how the treatment is working. For facial area’s please leave the hair.
Try and avoid:
- Tanning 2 weeks prior to laser. This also includes sunbeds and fake tan creams;
- Waxing/plucking throughout your laser hair removal session; and
- Lotions, creams, deodorant and cosmetics.
How long do I have to wait in between treatments?
We recommend different wait times depending on what areas are being treated. For face hair removal, we say wait around 4 weeks. And for body area’s the treatment intervals are 6-8 weeks.
